Intimate surgery Cologne: Labia reduction

Labia correction is a surgical procedure to reduce, modify or remove the labia.

In order to create a harmonious picture of the female genitals, the inner labia are usually reduced as part of a labia reduction and, if necessary, the outer, large labia are built up and modeled as part of a labia augmentation so that they can fulfill their covering and cushioning function.

How does a labia reduction work?

A detailed consultation takes place before the operation. A labiaplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia, general anesthesia is usually not necessary. Depending on the effort and scope, the procedure can take two to three hours. There are several methods available for labia reduction, which essentially differ in their incision. The surgeon uses a special laser to remove part of the labia minora, with the location and shape of the incision depending on the method chosen. The surgeon then sews up the incisions with a fine thread that dissolves by itself over time and does not have to be pulled.

What should be considered after a labia reduction?

After a labia reduction, straining of the genital area should be avoided. The patient should not do sports, hard physical work or sexual intercourse in the first few weeks after the operation.

Reasons for a labia reduction

A labiaplasty has both an aesthetic and a practical benefit. It is often done for purely cosmetic reasons when women are dissatisfied with their appearance. But the practical advantages should not be ignored either. Labia that are too large can lead to impairments, for example during sports, or even to pain during sexual intercourse. Thanks to innovative surgical techniques and the use of a laser during surgery, labia correction is a very safe operation.
